A crucial time for having a successful outcome regarding your rhinoplasty surgery is after the operation. If your nose isn’t cared for as advised by the doctor the outcome could be less than satisfactory. It is up to you to maintain the dressing and comply with best practices in order to assure the best outcome possible. Here are a few things for to be aware of after the surgery.
When leaving the surgery get a friend or family member to pick you up and drive you home and if possible stay with you for the first day.
For the first few days after the surgery you may see an increase in swelling around the nose and eyes, however there are a few things you can do to ease the effects, such as using ice packs as advised by your doctor, avoiding hot showers and refraining from alcohol.
For the first 7/10 days, best practices are you keep in the place all the nose supports until all the swelling has relaxed. Once this time has elapsed you will then be required to visit the doctor again to check for any complications and give the go ahead for the supports to be removed.
Your nose will feel very stuffy for the first week, like you have a mild flu, its very important that you don’t blow your nose, any sharp movement could effect the healing process.
Remember the healing process for rhinoplasty from start to finish can be in some cases up to a full year. That being said most people can be up and about feeling better about the surgery within 2/3 weeks.
There are other things you need to consider as well but these will vary from surgeon to surgeon. As long as you use some common sense along with the guidelines set out by the doctor you should be fine.
