What is a Good Eye Laser Surgery Candidate?

What is a Good Eye Laser Surgery Candidate? Several variables must be considered before determining whether or not someone would have a successful surgical outcome.

First and foremost the Ophthalmologist must perform a total eye examination to determine that the eyes are healthy. Next the physician looks at the eye shape to make sure nothing would prevent the procedure. Then they take several measurements including the pupil size and position as well as the cornea’s curvature.

Finally, the cornea’s thickness is examined to insure enough tissue is available to support the surgical cut and reshaping. Most potential patients will go through the evaluation successfully and be able to proceed with the procedure. Even the majority of people with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism can make good candidates for eye laser surgery.

Other considerations include being over 18 years old, not having any eye disease, no corneal scars, and have no retinal issues.

The initial complete eye examination will provide the doctor with all information necessary to give the potential surgery candidate confidence the eye laser surgery will result in a good outcome with minimal risk of complications.
